A file uploaded but cannot be read

Check access, format and processing separately.

An accepted upload confirms that bytes arrived. Reading, parsing and making those contents available for search are later steps.

On this page

Open the original file

Find the upload in the conversation or Files. Check its name, version and current access. If the original bytes are available, a processing retry may be enough; do not upload a second copy automatically.

Check format and content

Some formats can be stored or previewed without being indexed for search. Scanned PDFs, damaged files, encrypted content and very large documents may need different handling. Ask Artie whether it could read the content needed for this job.

Check for partial processing

A large file can be only partly processed. Ask which pages, rows or sections were covered and provide a narrower source if needed. Do not treat a plausible summary as evidence that the whole document was read.

Report the failed stage

Contact support with the file reference, format, approximate size and processing error. Say whether upload, preview, reading or search failed. Keep the original file and avoid sharing confidential contents unnecessarily.
