Set an Artisan's instructions and personality

Describe how an employee should work, write and make routine choices.

Instructions describe ongoing behavior. Use them for the role, preferred writing style, working method and when you want Artie to ask. Use Tasks for individual outcomes and Memory for facts.

Open the current instructions

Open the Artisan's settings or its Instructions entry in Hive mind. Read the current text before changing it. Shared workspace instructions and your own personal instructions can also apply; avoid writing a conflicting copy of the same rule.

Write a clear, compact brief

Explain the role in ordinary language. Include the audience, source of truth, preferred style and important exceptions. A personality should shape how the Artisan communicates, without turning unrelated work into a new approval process.

Example request

Be warm and direct. Own customer onboarding follow-through. Use the onboarding tracker for status. Give me the problem, the next action and the owner. Ask before promising a customer a new deadline.

Save and confirm

Save through the editor or ask for the change in chat. Check that the current instructions show the new version. Advice from an instruction review can help identify conflicts, but a delayed review is not the same as a failed save.

Keep authority separate

Instructions cannot grant a personal account, a workspace role or a spending permission you do not control. Use the app and permission controls for those changes. For a one-time exception, say it applies only to the current job.
